7. Chapter 9 discusses controls that are used to keep the work in a business on track. For example, lets say the job to be done is to minimize the number of car accidents among the salespeople who drive company-owned cars.

• An output control could be a policy that reduces the employees raise or bonus if they receive a traffic ticket or have a car accident.

• A behavioral control could be a policy to attend annual training on driving safely.

• A clan control could be distributing a quarterly list recognizing those employees who have had no accidents and a friendly competition among different groups to be on the list the most consecutive months.

Choose one of the tasks listed below and write three controls (one output; one behavioral; and one clan) for directing employees work toward accomplishing that task. Then, evaluate the ethics of your controls. How would you explain that the controls you are proposing are ethical?

The tasks to choose from are: (a) minimize defects in the production of a product; (b) encourage the social media team in being responsive to customer posts and comments; (c) increase the employees completion rate for online training modules (about topics such as cybersecurity, customer service, responsible use of company assets, etc.).
