Choose a current compensation issue (within 2022, 2023) and report about it. The issue preferably will relate to a Canadian organization or industry, but you can choose otherwise. Check with the Course Instructor by email for suitability and approval. The objective of the report is to be able to identify and analyze a compensation problem (or benefit) in an organization, and determine why, how it has generated changes in employee attitudes and behaviour.

Discussion of the issue must be supported with course material. You will discuss whether any solutions have been proposed to resolve the issue, and ultimately conclude with how YOU would resolve the issue and support your arguments. These are the questions to consider but not mandatory to address when writing your report. You are responsible for designing your own discussion. Questions are based on material discussed in the first several weeks of class.

Who are all the stakeholders involved/affected by the issue? Is this strictly an organizational problem?

What are the perceptions of the issue as viewed by the company? The employee? (fair vs. unjust)

Is the issue based on problems with intrinsic and/or extrinsic rewards?

Is this a base pay, performance pay, or indirect pay issue?

What harms are being inflicted in this issue? (mental, physical)

Is this issue limited to one organization, or is the issue prevalent in other similar industries or workplaces?

Is the issue as a result of poor organizational structure/strategy?

What are the reward outcomes as a result of this issue?

What behaviours/attitudes have developed from the issue? What are the consequences?

What constraints are involved (legal, employment standards, human rights, union)?

What managerial strategy is apparent in the organization? Is this part of the problem?

Are there problems with motivation? What theories of motivation are evident?

Is the issue due to changes in contextual or structural variables, or the environment?

What is the media portrayal/public reaction to the issue? Has the organization or other groups/people tried to solve the issue in the past? Outcome?

What is YOUR solution? Is it similar to what has been proposed if any have arose? Or is it unique?
