Question:
Choose one of the discussion prompts below to research and write
- Almost one-third of all U.S. households have at least one pet, and 92% of pet owners consider their furry friends members of the family - 83 percent call themselves "Mommy" or "Daddy" when they talk to their pets. The pet industry pulls in more revenue (almost $40 billion annually) than either the toy or candy industries. Discuss the "pet" as part of family household decision making and research interesting marketing strategies for pets. Feel free to include personal examples of consumption for your pet as well.
- Give your own personal examples of how you learned consumer skills, consumption-related preferences, and consumption-related attitudes from your family. Describe the process of how you learned (e.g. instrumental training, modeling, mediation)
- Describe a purchase situation you had recently with your family. Discuss each of the family purchase roles and any conflict resolution approaches that occurred.
- What stage of the household life cycle do you fall under? Do you think you fit the descriptions about this stage as described in the chapter? Discuss (or predict) how any changes to your life cycle stage would affect your decision making process as a consumer
