In an interview about this situation, company founder Chip Wilson said the problem is that some womans thighs are just too big to wear his pants. Many women were insulted by his comments and said he was basically saying they are too fat for his clothes. This is an excerpt from the interview:

Lululemon Founder Chip Wilson: Women will wear a seatbelt that wont work, or a purse that doesnt work, or quite frankly, some womens bodies just dont work for it. Reporter Trish Regan: They dont work for the pants? Wilson: They dont work for certain womens bodies. Regan: So the pants might be see-through on some womens bodies, but not on others? Chip: No, no. Because even our small sizes would fit an extra large. Its more about the rubbing through the thighs.

In response, Melissa Chen, a yoga practitioner in Burnaby said:

Most womens thighs rub together. So why is he blaming our legs? The product should be manufactured on that premise. Its kind of insulting. And blaming womens thighs to defend your product is pretty weak.
