Complete the Chapter 4 PROJECT ON JOBS: Analyzing, Describing, and Redesigning Jobs. This is located near the end of Chapter 4.
Please read the directions carefully before beginning.
This is the first project activity in this course. This part of the project has three (3) sections (parts):
Part 1: Conduct a Job Analysis: Choose a job of a friend or family member for which you would like to write a job description. Identify the job in the heading of this section. Develop 1020 questions for a job analysis interview so you can better understand this position. These questions are designed to find out what their job responsibilities entail. Be sure to note their responses. Submit both the questions and responses.
Part 2: Write a Job Description: Write the job description based on the analysis. A job description refers to the duties one has to preform. This includes job specifications, skills and education needed for this position.
Ask the person to review it for accuracy. Be sure the job description is written and formatted professionally. Stylistically, this should be written in the third person. It should be clear and concise.
Part 3: Job Design: Job design refers to the nature of the job. For example, this would include if the job has flexible hours, where it is locates, etc. This is the process of establishing employees' duties and responsibilities that will be included in this job. The job design finalizes the actual tasks and responsibilities the employee will be performing to actualize organizational goals. If the duties that are listed in the job description are unclear, involve too many or too few tasks, it will make employees jobs chaotic, inefficient and boring.
For this part, choose three of Hackman and Oldham's job characteristics and incorporate them into your job design to make this job meaningful for the employee. The point is to intrinsically motivate the employee through this.
After the job description, summarize in about 750 words, the rationale for modifying the job description. Reference the job characteristics model, and if possible, feedback from the interviewee. Label this component Part 3
