Conduct a waste identification analysis for a work process that you are familiar with or have access to. Ideally you should observe the waste first hand. The best option is at your own place of employment. Alternatively, you can go and observe a place of employment or you can get your information second hand from someone that you know, or from an example on the internet. The seven wastes of operations are

1. Defects

2. Over production

3. Waiting

4. Non-value added processing

5. Transportation

6. Inventory excess

7. Motion waste

For each of the seven categories of waste:

1. Look for and identify an example, with a justification. A photograph of the waste might be helpful. If you believe a particular category of waste is not present in the operations that you are evaluating, explain why you believe this to be so.
2. For each waste that you identify, please also generate one idea for how the waste could be reduced or eliminated.
