moves with a constant speed towards the end wall of the tube. Thus, a normal shock is

produced with a shock Mach number of 3. The temperature of the quiescent gas in the

tube is 300 K, the pressure is 100 kPa. The piston travels 1 m from its initial location

and then abruptly stops. The location of the end wall of the tube is such that the shock

reaches it at the same time moment when the piston stops.

(a) When the piston stops it generates a disturbance. Find the time and location when

this disturbance and the shock reected from the end wall of the tube rst meet.

(b) Determine the pressure on the piston initially and right after the piston stops;

(c) Draw x-t diagram of the flow.
