Consider jumping on a trampoline. Go jump on a trampoline if you have access to one. It's for science. You can also jump on your bed, or just yell BOING really loud while jumping in place. Make your kid sister/pet hamster do it if you can't, whatever. Or just watch youtube videos of other things bouncing around, like these foxes: Watch Video or these dogs: Watch Video Dogs on Trampolines Compilation Duration: 4:01 User: n/a - Added: 8/27/13 Okay, now that we've all watched, listened to, or otherwise practiced our own jumping on a trampoline, I want you to consider the four following phases of jumping: A. Being pushed up into the air, but in in contact with the trampoline. B. Flying up into the air above the trampoline. C. Falling back down toward the trampoline. D. Pushing down into the trampoline and slowing down after falling. For this assignment, I want you to draw a free body diagram for the above four cases. I expect to see all relevant forces labeled, scaled proportionately (bigger forces have bigger arrows), and there to be a coordinate axis present. Indicate the net force if it is non-zero. If two of the above cases have the same free body diagram, you should state this and why this is so instead of drawing another identical diagram. Please complete this assignment as a freehand drawing on paper or in a drawing program (I recommend just hand drawing -- it will be fastest unless you're a photoshop wizard) and upload a picture (ideally a jpg) to this assignment.
