Consider two reversíble Carnot engines: both operate between temperature reservolrs at TH = 1000 K and Tc = 800 K. The first Is a single engine operating between Ty and Tc; the other consists of two separate heat engines, the first drawing heat from Ty and rejecting heat to a bath at the Intermediate temperature of T; = 900 K, while the second stroke draws heat out of the same (very large) bath at T, and rejects to the reservolr at Tc.
