b) Polymorph screening was carried out on a new chemical entity (UNKI), and three Forms were found; Form I was obtained by synthesis in the laboratory (purity > 96%. HPLC) and used in the screening experiments; Form II was found by recrystallising in an aqueous solvent system; and Form III was obtained by heating at high temperatures and mechanical milling. The data in Figs 1 and 2, shown overleaf, show the powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) profiles oblained from these Forms. (i) Discuss the characterisation data obtained for each of the three Forms in (Fig 1-2). What conclusions can he determined from the XRD? Explain the additional information that is gained from the DSC and TGA. [12 marks] (ii) Explain the signiricance of the data in the contextof the development of this new drug. Include in your discussion which is the preferred form for further development: State what further testing is required.
