Question:
As part of a new initiative to maintain high levels of COVID-19 vaccination, a large state government organization will be offering new immunization services directly to citizens, for the next two years or as long as needed. The vaccination centers will be retail clinics located in major shopping centers and large regional towns. Reflecting NSW’s local health districts, 17 Area Managers across all of NSW will oversee the operations, with five to 15 sites each. To cover all retail hours including weekends, a small team in each site is expected to include:
1. A site supervisor with managerial and clinical expertise including vaccination programs, infection control, rostering, and problem-solving, able to consult with medical staff and practitioners at the local public hospital through telehealth links.
2. Three to five administration clerks. Tasks include phone, email, and other electronic bookings; registering those who come in for vaccination; crowd control such as directing traffic flow to ensure QR codes, masks, and the 15-minute wait after immunization are appropriately attended to; accurate data entry of registration details; ensuring details are synchronized with the immunization database; and daily accurate statistics reporting.
3. Three to four immunization nursing staff. Clinical roles with short interaction with the public restricted to confirming demographic and brief medical details, injecting the immunization and line of sight to immunized patients to confirm no immediate allergic reaction after a 15-minute wait. Will need experience in critical care with minimum accreditation in immunization, and advanced life support (ALS) to ensure they can intubate and defibrillate patients in the event of an allergic anaphylactic reaction to the vaccine.
