If someone walked in and bought three items from your menu for lunch, add up those three items in base 2.

Now suppose your restaurant is expanding to a different country that works in base 3. Translate your menu into base 3 below.

Choose the same three items you did in #2, but now add them up in base 3.

Suppose the person ordering the items in #4 changes their mind before the food comes out, and send one of the items back. Take the total from #4, and subtract one of the items in base 3.
