Data File needed for this Case Problem: NPEXxlsx
Canvas Scribe Michael Feinbaum is a production manager for Canvas Scribe, a manufacturer of digital games. To produce and release a quality game requires a team of programmers, animators, writers, and testers. Typically a game will take a year to develop from its initial planning stages to final release. Michael wants to create a production schedule for a new game called Escape from Dunkirk, to be released in time for holiday sales. To create this production schedule, you will use the WORKDAY and NETWORKDAYS functions described in Figure and in the InSight box, Date Calculations with Working Days. Complete the following:
Open the NPEXxlsx workbook located in the Excel Case folder included with your Data Files, and then save the workbook as NPEXSchedule in the location specified by your instructor.
In the Documentation sheet, enter your name in cell B Use a function to enter the current date in cell B
In the Production Schedule worksheet, in cell B enter as an initial proposed start date for the project.
In cell B enter the formula B to reference the start date you entered in cell B
In cell C calculate the date on which the Idea Development phase ends using the WORKDAY function. Use cell B as the starting date, cell D as the number of workdays, and the range $H$:$H$ as the reference to the holiday dates.
Use AutoFill to extend the formula in cell C to the range C:C but do not extend the formatting.
In cell B enter the formula B to display the date on which the game will be released.
In cell B use the NETWORKDAYS function to calculate the total number of working days that will be devoted to creating the Escape from Dunkirk game. Use cell B as the startdate, cell B as the enddate, and the range $H$:$H$ as the holidays argument.
In cell B calculate the total number of calendar days devoted to the project by taking the difference between the release date and the start date.
The game must be released no later than to take advantage of holiday sales. Use Goal Seek to determine the starting date that will meet this goal by entering cell B in the Set cell box, the date in the To value box, and cell B in the By changing cell box.
In cell D write a summary of your findings in developing this production schedule.
Save the workbook, and then close it
