Dear Staff Engineer:
Mr. Holcomb seeks our services for the design of a bridge that will serve his business. I would like you to design the bridge beams and decking necessary to accommodate his request. He has indicated that the maximum load on the bridge should be a loaded concrete truck. However, I believe a small bit of research should lead you to find the maximum AASHTO load (e.g. H or HS-?) that could possibly be loaded onto this structure, based on span versus axle spacing... truck
The bridge deck surface will be located approximately 12 feet above the base of the stream and the necessary span is 20'. He plans to use concrete abutments that will be designed by others, but he would like to provide the concrete designer the bearing width necessary for the beams.
Please be clear about the assumptions of your design and include your results pertaining to: beam design, any diaphragms necessary, end bearing width and bearing plate design (if necessary), end conditions, and decking type as well as the assumed loads that govern the design. conceptually: we will use this deirgn for dyagron decteing - concrete - wood - any other option? Submit your report to me by Friday, April 24(Final Exam). Please include all of your results and any drawings/sketches you feel would help him during his construction. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
