This procedure has two primary components - one for employees upon hire and before the first day of work and another for the continuing education of existing employees in all facility departments and areas.
PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION: To meet the HIPAA Training needs, the procedure is divided into two categories. Category ONE -This portion outlines the steps needed for HIPAA Training for each new hired person at LiveWell prior to the first day on the job. Category TWO-This portion outlines the steps needed for HIPAA Training annually in the first full week of April for all existing employees.

Overview - to accommodate a small group or single new hire, a HIPAA video has been purchased. This video provides the freedom needed to on-board new hires without a formal HIPAA presentation by the HIPAA Privacy and Security Officers.
Procedure steps for Category One
1. Human Resources will enroll new hires into the HIPAA training online course.
2. New hire will schedule 90 minutes with HR to complete the training.
3. Training must be completed at least one day prior to the first assigned day of work at the employee unit or department.
4. New hire will receive log-in information from HR.
5. Computer station will be assigned to new hire in the HR department.
6. New hire will view the HIPAA instructional video.
7. Post video assessment will be given upon completion of video.
8. All new hire must score 80% or better on assessment. HIPAA instructional video may be viewed as many times as preferred by new hire. Assessment may be taken a maximum of two times to achieve the required score.
9. HIPAA assessment score is recorded by HR staff member in the HR employee file.
