"Diggingdeep into dataisrisky;it forces us to confront our current reality, which may cause discomfort. Ultimately, looking at data empowers teachers and principals because it produces positive results--for our students and for us as members of professional learning communities." (DuFour & Eaker, 2008, p. 213,The Collaborative Administrator: Working Together as a Professional Learning Community) For this assignment, you will create a PowerPoint presentation of approximately 25-35 slides to be delivered to staff and parents. To do this, you will first have an opportunity to review a newly designed website for parents/guardians, educators, and the public to determine how districts and schools are meeting the needs of California's diverse student population referred to as the California School Dashboard. Based on multiple measures included in the new accountability system, the dashboard shows how districts and schools are performing and includes a set ofeasy-to-use reportsshowing district or schoolperformance on 6 state indicators and 4 local indicators(6 for county offices of education) in different levels of detail.

It should be noted that the state indicators are based on data that is collected consistently statewide and allows comparison of performance. State data is not available for the local indicators, so districts will measure and report on their progress throughthe Dashboard based on locally available information.

1.)For the first part of your presentation assignment, you will need togo to the following website: https://www.caschooldashboard.org/

Once you connect to the website, you will need to review the Video Tutorial which you should find on the 'Home' page. You will also be able to find additional information by clicking on the 'About" tab at the top where you will find information related to Accountability, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Resources, and Glossary.

Having reviewed the information on the website related to the areas noted above, you will begin your PowerPoint presentation by answering and addressing questions such as: 1.) What is the California Dashboard?; 2.) What information does the Dashboard include and what do the colors mean? 3.) Why was the Dashboard created and how is it intended to be used? 4.) What are the local indicators and how are they measured? 5.) What Reports are Included and what do they cover? 6.) Other areas that you believe to be important for staff and parents to be aware of.

2.)For the second part of your presentation assignment, you are toselect a particular school that you would like to learn more about.Having selected a school, you will then need to review information relative to all students and student subgroups for such things as chronic absenteeism, suspension rate, academic performance in Mathematics and English-Language Arts (ELA), as well as graduation rate and college/career if it is applicable to the school or district that you have selected. Having reviewed the information, you will need to add to your presentation what you have found relative to each of the reports for the school you selected to review.

3.)For the last part of your presentation, you are touse the information you gathered to summarize some of your thoughtsbyaddressing the following 3 areas-- 1.)Areasof the school that appear to be positive and should be continued; 2.)Areasof the school that appear to need some improvement and should continue to be worked on; and 3.)Next steps that you believe the school needs to address and take to help the school move forward.

*** To successfully complete this presentation assignment, it is important that it look professional as you are representing your school. As such, you will want to: Use short statements and bullet points to highlight key information; Use illustrations to help draw the attention of your audience; and include a References slide at the end to provide your audience with sources they can refer to for additional information.

Before completing your presentation, be sure to check that it addresses all of the areas as noted above and that it is error free. Your completed presentation is to then be submitted into this assignment area by the end of this week
