DMP steps are required for many different sitautions in the Army. I've seen OPORDs for events, change of command ceremonies, training missions, etc, but I think it is most reliably used for training missions and operational missions. Mission Orders and MDMP; Step 1: Receipt of Mission - Higher Headquaters plan/order a new mission. They alert staff and key participants. They give the Commanders inital guidance, allocation of time, and issue the WARNO. Step 2: Mission Analysis - Staff will analyze the Higher Headquaters plan/order, create running estimates, identify shortfalls, determine constraints, developt inital problem/mission statements, and develop Course of Action (COA) evaluation criteria. Step 3: Course of Action (COA) - Staff will access the situation, generate options, update running estimates and assumptions, prepare a sketch/layout/map, and conduct the Course of Action (COA) brief. Step 4: COA Analysis (War-Gaming) - Staff will issue guidance to subordinantes, list friendly forces, list assumptions, list critical events and decision points, select War-Gaming method and execute it. Step 5: COA Comparison - Staff will compare advantages and disadvantages of all COAs and conduct a COA Decision brief. Step 6: COA Approval - The Commander approves a COA Step 7: Orders production, Dissemination, and Transition - Complete the plan, issue the oder and disseminate to subordinantes, and transition from planning to preparing give a cricitcal response to this in 100
