Advanced Argument Essay Assignment For this assignment, you will practice writing a more complex, academic argument essay. As you have learned before, you need an arguable thesis statement and several reasons to support that thesis. In addition to that, you will add a paragraph or two of different types to give yourself four or five body paragraphs. You also need an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Topic: You should think of an academic, controversial topic in a field of your choice. Some examples of academic and controversial topics include: equal pay for women, trade deals between certain countries, water conservation, immigration issues, cyber terrorism, the safety of electronic cigarettes, and GMOs (genetically-modified organisms). Do not choose non-academic, trivial topics like sports, fashion, or social media. Try to think of a topic that you might need to write about in a college class you plan to take. Steps . . Choose a topic. Make an outline so that you know what each body paragraph will be about. Write your rough draft using your own ideas. Look for a couple of quotations to add to your argument. This is just a chance to start practicing using quotes. You don't have to have many quotes. One or two is enough for this assignment. Use any Internet source you want. Add the quotations in the details area of your body paragraphs. Make sure to integrate the quotes into your own sentences. Revise and edit your essay before submitting it. . . .
