Difference between Gantt Chart and Milestone Chart
Milestone Chart:
It is a tool used in project management. A milestone chart represents a top-ranking plan. Most of the time they are used for communication with superior management.
An example of the milestone chart is given below which shows important key events to be incurred from week 1 to week 20 against multiple variants like requirements, design completion, coding, and testing completion.
Gantt Chart:
It presents the timing of different pieces of work that is essential to accomplish a certain project. In a particular Gantt chart we can notice the following features:
- Beginning date of the project
- What are the project assignments?
- Size of the labor force and who are experts?
- Beginning and completion of a task
- How much time each piece of the assignment will acquire?
- Piling of the task, overlapping, and how they are interlinked?
- Accomplishing date of a project
The two main features of Gantt charts are given as under:
- A horizontal axis: It shows the time of a project, which can be further broken down into a timeline of weeks and days. So, in this way each activity can be noticed from the start of the project till the end of the project.
- A vertical axis: It is made to present all the pieces of work connected to a project. For example, managerial software training may need sub-tasks for instance training or teaching sessions, etc.
