Eskom to implement load shedding from 10 pm - 5 am for two nights - Cape Community Newspapers (South Africa)
Cape Town - Eskom has announced plans to implement stage 2 load shedding from 10 pm overnight until 5 am on Wednesday and Thursday.
In Statement Eskom said that the load shedding is necessary in order to recover and reserve the emergency, generation reserves that have been utilized to support the system during the week following the earlier than planned shutdown of Koeberg unit 1 and other units whose return to service has been delayed.
"We currently have 6672MW on planned maintenance, while another 12073MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance"
Teams are working around the clock to retain as many as these units to service as soon as possible, as Eskom said. The embattled power utility has urged the public to reduce their electricity consumption to minimize the risk of load shedding period.
It added that the system remains vulnerable and unpredictable. " Load shedding is implemented as the last resort to protect integrity of the system. At the moment the equivalent of two large power station is out for planned maintenance adding pleasure to the system"
Eskom said that it will communicate timeously should there be any significant changes to the power system.
