Exercise: Performance Appraisal

Purpose: To provide practice preparing an employee annual performance appraisal

Instructions:

Your role is the manager. You are the employee's immediate HIM supervisor. The employee to be appraised is a Data Analyst. You are asked to complete the appraisal form to prepare for a meeting with the employee. $($For this exercise, no appraisal interview meeting needs to be scheduled.$)$

Review the Performance Standards and Notes on performance on this employee from the past year, provided on page $2$ of this document.

Download the Performance Rating Form and Reflection Sheet, provided separately $($one MS Word document$).$

Complete the Performance Rating Form on this employee by assigning ratings and inserting comments based on your assessment. Adjust spacing in the document to accommodate your comments; use bold, color or other clear marking to indicate ratings. Note at least one area for employe improvement and$/$or development.

Complete the Reflection Sheet portion of the document, following the Performance Rating Form.

Save and submit the completed Performance Rating Form and Reflection Sheet document in Blackboard by the due date for participation credit. Submission may be MS Word or PDF$.$ Make sure to include your name.

Grading $($up to $20$ points$)$ will be based on a student's timely completion and submission of the required Performance Rating Form and Reflection Sheet document. For full credit, submission should show evidence of:

thoughtful application of the employee performance notes in preparing the appraisal form and assigning ratings;

prioritization of information on performance to emphasize;

notation of one or more areas for employee improvement and$/$or development;

understanding of text reading on performance appraisal;

thoughtful reflection on the process;

clear writing; no errors;

citation of any references using APA style.
