Facilities Layout and Materials Handling involves the development of skills and use of tools related to the comprehensive design and construction of appropriate facilities and processes for the manufacturing/provision of specified products or services. Apply a systematic Facility Planning and Design to redesign any of the underlisted industry facilities: a) a retail warehouse b) a food production plant c) a local bank d) a furniture manufacturing plant e) a hospitals department or a clinic f) a university cafeteria g) a university library h) an automotive assembly plant Students are required to: Provide an overview of the project. Establish and map the human, material and equipment flow across the departments. Estimate the volumes and frequencies, and where necessary mass of the flow. Conduct a well-reasoned flow analysis of materials or parts. Determine with sound reasoning, the Activity Relationship Codes for each department against selected departments and draw up an Activity Relationship Diagram, include reason codes. Construct a dimensionless block diagram of the facilitys layout. Use Visio or Layout IQ software to redesign a detailed labelled facility layout
