Postal History Singapore

The parent company Singapore Post has a long history of excellence dating back to the founding of Singapore by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. In earlier mail days, the post office function is only to collect and deliver the small volume of letters. But today, the post office is processing millions of mail daily, this is despite the technology breakthrough of e-mail that reduces the need to post the document. Interesting to note that in 1949 under a Malayan Postal Union Agreement, the Singapore Postal Department was linked to the Postal Department of the Federation of Malaya. The colonial system was set up with standard rules for both Singapore and Malaya. Eventually with the Singapore separation from Malaysia, the system is still being followed through.
