Step 1: Choose an organisation
Choose a real organisation that operates within the Asia-Pacific region ( to be your client. The organisation may be in any industry, and it may be large or small. It may be in the public, private, or not-for-profit sector.
Step 2: Choose an issue or HRM practice
Research the company of your choosing and identify an issue they are currently facing OR one of the HRM practices listed in Rynes, Colbert and Brown (2002) which may be applicable to the company.
Issues may include:
1. Reasons for a high turnover rate
2. Poor job satisfaction among employees
3. Low motivation among employees
HRM practices may include:
1. Should social media be banned in the workplace?
2. Is it worthwhile to provide leadership training?
3. What are the best methods for making hiring decisions?
Step 3: Present your argument
Present an argument to the CEO as to how the company should resolve the issue OR whether the practice should be adopted or not.
- Briefly describe what the organisation is and what it does.
- Briefly summarise the issue the company is currently facing OR practice that your client is considering adopting.
- Explain why the the issue should be resolved (i.e. highlight the advantages and disadvantages) OR why the practice is relevant to your client. (What has prompted your client to consider this practice?)
- Select ONE management theory from week 5 lecture slides to be used to resolve this issue or explain the management practice.
- Make a definitive recommendation based on the management theory about what the organisation should do. (Do not just provide an overview of the issues).
- Provide guidance to your client about how to implement your recommendation
