He is thirty-six-years-old and works in a factory. His colleagues report that Jarred got distracted by a loud noise while operating a machine and his arm ended up getting caught. The machine was quickly shut down by a colleague who observed the incident, but Jarred has sustained multiple lacerations to his left arm and this has resulted in heavy blood loss. When Jarred arrives at A&E, he is conscious and able to respond to questions. However, paramedics who attended the incident believe that he may be entering hypovolemic shock due to his pale skin, shaking, and dizziness. Jarred is informed that he will require a blood transfusion to replenish his blood loss and to prevent further circulation difficulties. He refutes the suggestion and says that he is a Jehovah's Witness, so is therefore prohibited from receiving a blood transfusion.
