For each classmate, please respond to their post. In your response, be sure to include the following: Do you agree with where they placed their product and service along the continuum? Based on your awareness of the differences between products and services, do you think it's harder to market products or services? Explain why you feel this is the case.
Classmate Post: For my product I chose bottled Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew is a soda that can be marketed in a variety of ways. They sell it in the grocery store in 2-liter bottles, 12-ounce cans, or even a six pack of 24-ounce bottles. They also sell the soda at gas stations in cans, bottles, or fountain drinks. This product can be classified as a convenience. In the store they place the product right by the checkout lines just for the sole fact that it is easy to grab while you are waiting in line to check out with your other groceries.
For my service I chose the drive thru oil change and car maintenance locations. This would be line Jiffy Lube or Valvaline locations. This service is a specialty and convenient. They specialize in car maintenance, and it is convenient because you just drive up and tell them what you need without an appointment and most of the time you dont even have to get out of your vehicle.
My good, Mountain Dew, would fall to the left of salt. You do not need it and it is solely a want. There is no value to buying it and no nutritional value to drinking the product. My service would fall between clothes and airlines. If you own a vehicle, then you need the services offered, however you can still choose to go anywhere to get the same type of service. If you do not own a vehicle, then the service offered is irrelevant to you.
The product is tangible and is stocked in inventories. It does have a sell by date on it but the buyer isnt on any time constraint. The service isnt tangible and there isnt an inventory of the service. There is a time criteria because vehicle owners are supposed to service their vehicles every so often but these are not strictly followed.
