FOR VBA CODING CLASS, SUPPOSED TO USE DATA SOLVER EVOLUTIONARY METHOD PLEASE HELP
Problem Statement:
You are doing a home renovation project, replacing some of the trim pieces in a small room in your house. The
room has several doors and windows around which you are using the same trim as the molding around the
bottom of the walls. Below is a list of all the cut lengths of trim board you need. If the trim is sold in boards 10
feet long, how many boards do you need to buy? Trim pieces needed (lengths in inches): 110,105,50,10,65,
32,90,8,11,77,36,29,42
Additional Requirements/Details:
There are multiple ways to divide up individual purchased boards into the trim pieces above. There are
not, however, multiple answers to the question of the minimum number of boards needed.
There are also several ways to set up this problem. Most of them will involve determining which pieces
to cut from which board, generating a total inches used per each board depending on which pieces are
cut from it.
Begin with the same set of initial guesses for your decision variables, and try each of the Solvers. Note
what happens.
Tinker with the settings (including random seed, and population ?1) and start values and see what, if
anything, changes.
Discuss the performance of the Solver(s) in the Word document you submit.
Also, using your final settings/solver, how many boards do you need if they come in 12 foot lengths
instead?
Additional Requirements/Details:
Your spreadsheet should be cleanly formatted and all spreadsheet elements should be clearly labeled.
