For your HL110 portfolio projects, you will create and design four chapters of a hospitality leadership guidebook based on each course of the Hospitality Leadership program. The purpose of the guidebook is to assist hospitality organization managers in improving their personal competence to become more effective leaders in the industry.

One of the main challenges encountered by the hospitality industry is employee retention. The hiring and retention of staff were the biggest challenges for hoteliers in 2022. The current demand and limited job market supply along with increasing competition has made it critical for hospitality leaders to reduce staff turnover and focus on retention.

For Portfolio Project Part 3, you will demonstrate your expertise in creating strategies for talent retention. Refer back to Chapter 10, pages 270271 in the textbook, and these resources for information on turnover and retention in the hospitality industry. Then, respond to the questions below.

1. Explain in your own words why it is better for a business to retrain and retain its current employees than to hire new workers. Write 3-4 sentences to explain your opinion.

2. How do you think proper training and retraining can decrease talent turnover in the hospitality industry? Write 1 paragraph (4-6 sentences).

3. Explore and describe 5 possible causes of employee turnover in the hospitality industry. Which ones can you as a leader eliminate or reduce? Which ones do you think might be beyond your control? Why?

4. Do research and find at least 3 possible strategies that you as a manager can implement to decrease turnover. Write detailed steps that are to be taken with each of the 3 strategies.
