Fullmetal Enterprise is a family-owned manufacturer of automail (a type of advanced prothetic limb). Fullmetal’s products are sold to healthcare providers throughout the United States and Europe. An excerpt of its production cycle follows:

“Finished automail and raw materials, as well as inventory records, are kept in the inventory storeroom managed by Alphonse Elric. Alphonse performs a daily review of the items on hand by monitoring the inventory subsidiary ledger and determining whether additional materials are needed. If they are, Alphonse prepares a materials requisition form to submit to the production planning and control (PPC) department.

The PPC department is led by Edward Elric. Upon receipt of a materials requisition form from Alphonse, Edward files the form. Edward’s files contain not only the materials requisition forms received from Alphonse, but also sales forecasts received from the sales department managed by Winry Rockbell. These files are monitored on a daily basis; if there is a match between the needs identified by both the inventory storeroom and sales, a bill of materials and a routing slip are prepared and forwarded to the production room. If inventory quantities for supporting materials are sufficient, a production schedule is prepared and forwarded to the production room. If materials are needed to support production of the items, a purchase requisition is prepared and forwarded to the purchasing department and inventory storeroom”
