Goal Setting in the Workplace

SKILL$-$DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE

Apply some of the information about goal theory in setting short$-$term and long$-$term goals for the following

two scenarios.

Scenario $1$: The dog food division of a pet food company is introducing a vitamin$-$enriched dog food that

also includes a tooth whitener. The division president wants you, or your group, to set goals to introduce the new dog food to the market, and also to

gain a share of the dog food market into the future.

Scenario $2$: The general manager of your region for

a package delivery service observes that the truck

drivers are getting far too many traffic tickets for

speeding, running red lights, and illegal parking.

The general manager wants you, or your group,

to deal with this problem by setting goals for right

now, and well into the future.
