It will also help develop a full awareness of all factors involved in making the decision, along with checking the current landscape of the business. Margaret Heffernan talks about how the importance of speaking up. She gives the example of Joe, an executive who worked for a company that made medical devices. Joe was worried that one particular device would bring harm to patients but no one else seemed worried, and he didn't want to be seen as a whistleblower. Joe wanted to leave the company. Instead, he voiced his concerns and discovered many others were feeling the same way and they considered him a leader for speaking up. He now knows that you must be more afraid of the silence than the conflict. He assembled a team, and many discussions were had. Changes to the device were made and patients were no longer at risk.
