Description: Project Details:
This furniture chain has many stores in all 50 states, each store has a number, address, etc. Each employee has a first name, last name, and position: like store manager, assistant manager, greeter, cashier, mover, driver, security guard, etc. Also each employee has a supervisor: His or her immediate boss. Other attributes for the employee include wage: his or her hourly wage (before taxes), phone number, etc
Sales employees are treated differently because their pay is commission based. The employee that sells more furniture gets more money. Their commission is 2.5% of their sales. If an employees sales add up to $20,000 his/her paycheck will be $500 before taxes. One more interesting thing about Sales employees is that they have different skills. One salesman might have a number of skills: Living room set, couch, sofa, recliner, book shelf, and entertainment center. Another salesman might have all previous skills in addition to: Bedroom set, dresser, night stand, and lamp. This is critical because this company wants to utilize their employees experience by having them sell furniture they can talk about comfortably and be able close the sale successfully. Sales employees also have the number of customers they have been assigned to and the number of sales; that is how many items they have sold until this moment. The company wants to be able to calculate the closing ratio for each salesman. This item, closing ratio, is extremely important because store managers are not allowed to keep salesmen with low closing ratio. They have to lay them off or move them to different jobs not related to sales based on their experience. If their closing ratio is low, that means they are not good in making the pitch to the customer, so A.B.C. Furniture wants to keep track of the number of customers an employee has been assigned to; they call them leads, and how many successful sales this employee made till this moment. The closing ratio can be calculated using this formula: Divide the number of successful sales by the number of leads and multiply the outcome by 100. The result is the employee closing ratio expressed as a percent. If, for example, an employee named Rebecca had 56 sales leads and 9 of them were closed sales, Rebecca has a closing ratio of 9 divided by 56 multiplied by 100, which equals %16.07. Rebecca is a good salesman. In short a salesman has skills, number of leads, number of sales, and closing ratio in addition to the generic attributes every other employee has.
Storing the data: The data must be stored in text files. Items.txt: This file includes all the data members in Item ADT. It has the following information:
1. id: A unique item number that identifies the item
2. store_id: The store number where the item is physically located.
3. Type: The items type. E.g. Couch, Bed, Dresser, Table, Desk, Chair, etc
4. Color: The items color. E.g. Black, Red, Green, White, Blue, etc
5. Material: The items material. E.g. Hard Wood, Leather, Cloth, etc
6. Price: The items unit price. E.g. 1 couch costs $350.00, so we store 350.00
7. Points: The possible point the customer earns when purchasing this item. Points are critical because they are converted into discounts for future purchases.
