I am responding to a discussion post. How can I respond to this student: I actually just experienced an organizational change at work recently. The law firm I work for hired an Operations Director. We previously didn't have one. This change was necessary because we grew from a small firm with few employees to a mid-size firm with many more employees. So, the informal, non-uniform way things were done worked for a small firm, but things are going to get disorganized now that we are growing. There are ineffective processes or lack of any process for some functions of the firm.
How can I respond to this student: At my previous place of employment, we offered audio guides to those who wanted to enhance their self-guided experience throughout the museum.Initially we'd hand them out and ask that they be returned to the Box Office, where they purchased their tickets. However, when guests returned them and placed them off to the side of the counter, new guests arriving thought they were free to take. This caused a lot of confusion and caused delay because if we were busy, we'd have to stop and clean the devices before distributing them back out. To rectify this, we added hooks in the last room of the museum for people to return their devices, and we'd collect them periodically. Management did discuss this change with us, and it was beneficial to the team. When employees or management are faced unprecedented organizational changes, I think the main concern is whether it will actually make the workload easier for the staff.
