Question:
I think that zoos are ethical. The main reasons I say this is because of the poachers to start. About two million animals are poisoned or killed by poachers. And the poaching is so bad that they must burn ivory that is stolen from rhinos and elephants, so it does not end up on the black market and sold to others. Just in the US there are over 1,000 operations of people who capture and sell these animals. If they are in zoo’s then the poachers have less of a chance of hunting these animals or putting them into captivity. There have been cases where poachers have broken into the zoo like a case in France where some poachers have broken in at nighttime sawed off a horn from a four-year-old rhinos head and fled into the night. Now cases like this are not a consistent thing but it does happen if they are put in a zoo it offers more protection to if they are not.
Zoos are also ethical because not only do they protect the animals from some humans they protect, but they also protect humans from the animals. More than 47,000 people are attacked by wild animals or at least bitten if not killed. It is rare that this happens in the zoo. Usually, people getting attacked by animals in the zoo do to the fact they are not following the rules like for an example climbing into the enclosures. I would say some of these dangerous animals are better locked up in enclosures and not roaming the wild for the safety of the people who live around them to. Most times in the zoo they are well taken care of and well fed and treated with respect.

A huge factor to take into consideration is some humans destroy these animals’ homes and in some cases in up killing the animals while destroying its home. A great example of this happening is when there was construction going on at a cite and the cite home to a group of burrowing owls and the construction people destroyed and knocked down the trees surrounding and paved right over top of their home killing the owls and they were aware of the whole situation but due to the greed of humans they just pushed on with there plans not even attempting to help the owls out of there holes. Another fine example of this is when some people cut down the baboon forest and pushing the panda population further and further into isolation.
I feel zoos are a two in one win. They help the animals as well as help humans make a profit. Zoos have a spending allowance of 5.4 billion to work with to take care of the animals with. Also, to update and to pay for maintenance. But expensive to buy the animals it cost for a mating pair of pandas 1 million dollars. For a cub it cost $600,000 just to buy it not to pay for the habitat or the food. To put things into perspective for $400k that enough for a few small animals and small enclosures. In this sort of business, it often cost more for the enclosures than the actual animals. An example of this gorilla enclosures cost about 2 to 3 million dollars. While an actual gorilla well a baby gorilla would cost $15,000 to $40,000 for an adult it is in the millions. So even though the encloser is two to three million dollars that is not even for a luxury on that is just a reasonable size. However, Zoos pay $160 million on conservation annually.
In conclusion Zoos are the best place for animals. It is the safest place for them and us. I know lots of people think that zoos are kind of bias for wanting to protect animals by butting them in cages and taking them from their habitats, but it is ethical, the reason why being zoos are the only people who have enough money to take care of the animals. Even if someone may have enough money, they certainly do not have the expertise a zoo has and the knowledge to make sure that all the animals feel right at home. One thing I left out is its important for animals to feel like they are right at home because they to can suffer from anxiety and stress just like humans. They have emotions to it is important to take this into consideration because it can affect their very way of living.
