In many engineering applications your sensor value or control command will need to be restricted between two values.

An integer will be passed to your method. If the value is bigger than $40,$ make it $40.$ If the value is smaller than $-50,$ make it $-50.$ If it is $0,$ then make it $-1000.$ Then return the integer, whether thresholded, modified or not.

Keeping a sensor or control value bounded like this is sometimes $($often$?)$ referred to as "thresholding" or "saturating" or "limiting".

Regardless of what you call it$,$ it's a super common thing to do$.$
