In this lab, you will start creating a small private network that has a DNS server. As your network grows, you dont want to remember each IP address for your machines. Setting up a private DNS server will ensure that you are able to use hostnames to refer to machines, instead of IP addresses. Lastly, we will explore configuring DNSSEC, although you wont have to worry about the parent zone configuration for this lab.
Configuration Overview
You will setup your private network using the 10.0.3.0/24 network. The table below outlines the DNS entries that you will be concerned with for this lab. In future labs, you will add more entries to the DNS server.
| Host | IP Address | Purpose | Hostname |
|---|---|---|---|
| ns1 | 10.0.3.11 | Primary DNS Server | ns1.itis3246.lab |
| ns2 | 10.0.3.12 | Secondary DNS Server | ns2.itis3246.lab |
| server | 10.0.3.100 | SSH Server | server.itis3246.lab |
| client | 10.0.3.101 | SSH Client | client.itis3246.lab |
