In this three-hour lesson, students will analyze the complex dynamics of organizational leadership to determine what a sergeant major must do to exercise leadership within the mission command framework. Their analysis of the mission command framework and the role of the sergeant major during the planning and execution of combat operations will assist their understanding of the leadership competencies required of a command/ sergeant major. The first and second hour of class will be a discussion of the mission command framework. The third hour will explore the leadership responsibilities of a command/ sergeant major during operations and include an application of the information presented during the class. As a result of this lesson, students should have a much more thorough grasp of a sergeant major's leadership responsibilities within the mission command framework
