One modern method is electronic performance monitoring, or monitoring work processes with electronic devices; can be very cost effective and has the potential for providing detailed and accurate work logs. For example) monitoring a work computer to seek if an employee is using the computer for nonproductive purposes (shopping, downloading music) or counterproductive purposes (bullying coworkers, watching porn).
