In this week's reading, I was able to learn that there are lots of different types of advanced directives but the most popular ones are directives to physicians and family (living will), medical power of attorney (POA), and declaration for mental health treatment. It can also be found that advanced directives are defined as legal documents that states a person's wishes about receiving medical care if that same person is unable to make medical decisions because of a serious illness or injury (Herskowitz, 2018). Advanced directives should only be used in situations where a person can no longer voice their choices about medical treatment it should not be used during a time in which the person can still make decisions for themselves. It seems that advanced directives have become quite the issue within our society because even though advanced directives exist people still question them when it comes to giving someone the right to die. In society everyone has this idea that everyone else is entitled to their own choices and their own life but when it comes to their right in choosing whether they want to live or die, society as a group decides to become involved and make them change their choice. It is honestly baffling how big of an issue this truly is because people who have these types of documents to dictate and pave the way for their own medical treatments?
