In your new EHR system, the software flags diagnoses that must be reported to the state's mandatory reporting list. Your physician (Dr. A) has been treating a fellow physician (Dr. B). Dr. B's labwork has just come back positive for gonorrhea. Dr. A tells you that she will not report this to the state health agency and will not enter it into the medical record as a professional courtesy to Dr. B, but will just treat Dr. B with the antibiotic samples that the drug rep left at your practice. Dr. A also tells you that she will not charge Dr. B for the treatment, as this is part of professional courtesy, and so no record of claims or billing need to be created.
