GUIDELINES FOR ANSWERING THE ASSIGNMENT

An assignment is a scientific document and as such should meet the requirements of being scientific. These requirements are classified into two categories, namely technical and content requirements: Technical requirements denote professional requirements and content requirements represent subject$-$matter specific requirements.

The assignment must have a clear, organised structure that presents your ideas in such a way that the reader can understand them, follow them, and can be convinced by your arguments, or at least can see your point of view because of the evidence you have presented.

It is important to read through the theme of the assignment provided and the questions more than once, to capture the overall picture of the situation. It may sound rather too obvious to mention but year after year, students just look at a word or phrase and take this as a cue to reel off everything they know about that subject, without considering whether they are answering what has been asked of them. You need to analyse the question and remember that certain focus words are clues as to what is being asked. Lastly, to answer properly consider the glossary in your study guide to understand the following words:

APPLY

Show the application of acquired knowledge or given information in practice, or in relation to what is asked. Use knowledge to find an answer to the question.

ANALYSE

Separate$/$divide into parts or elements, describe comprehensively and comment.

GIVE A REVIEW

Give a synopsis$/$summary$/$brief account of the main facts of a subject and comment.

DEMONSTRATE OR INDICATE

Explain by using a sketch, model, picture, graph, or a concrete subject. It may also imply a well$-$thought$-$thorough and well$-$formulated description.

FORMULATE

To create something, especially by putting together different parts.

Use the following structure when compiling the assignment:

Use the attached cover page as the first page of the individual assignment.

Introduction $-$ explain your approach and the introduction of the content and selected trends of your assignment.

Body $-$ thoroughly review the trends and formulate the HRD strategy for each selected trend, analyse the readiness of South African organisations in the adaptation of the selected trends, and review the South African trends in terms of legislation and your role as an HRD practitioner.

Conclusion $-$ summarise the whole assignment.

Use the MS$-$Word automatic table of content.

Graphics and Numberings:

Graphics should be neatly presented.

Numbering of headings in the text should be done according to the questions.

Presentation $($layout and formatting appearance$)$:

The assignment should be typed to ensure legibility. It should not be more than $10$ pages. Kindly note that only the first $10$ pages of the assignment will be assessed if you exceed the page limit$.$
