Informative Speech/Country Choice Outline Example Three Topic: Cuba General Purpose: To Inform Specific Purpose: By the end of my speech, my audience will know more about the Cuban culture. Cuba Introduction When I hear someone mention the country of Cuba the first things that come to my mind are good food, communism, and Ricky Ricardo. 2. Today I will share with you how there is so much more to this country than its Communist Party and a character on a TV show. mMy husband's parents were both bom in Cuba, so I have heard interesting stories about this beautiful country as well as experienced a lot of their culture through my interaction with his extended family. w. First, I'll tell you a little bit about Cuba. Second, I'll tell you about how one may visit there and things you should know before doing so. Lastly, I'll tell you more about the culture and lifestyle of a Cuban citizen. Let me begin by telling you more about Cuba itself. Body Cuba is an archipelago of two main islands, Cuba and Isla de la Juventud, or "Isle of Youth". A. It is located approximately 90 miles south of the United States. For comparison's sake, it is nearly as big as the state of Pennsylvania. 2. More than half of the country is covered in low hills and fertile valleys. B. Cuba has a year round moderate climate. 1. Prior to this discontinued program, US citizens could sign up for an authorized program to travel to Cuba. 1. People-to-people trips to Cuba were not a typical vacation. They focused on interaction with the local citizens and exposure to the Cuban culture (CultureGrams). 2. Unfortunately, according to Pete Kasperowicz's article, "Cuba shuts down US travel visas," on The Hill website. Cuba decided on February 14 of this year to put an end to these trips and shut down US travel visas. B. For the time being only humanitarian travel to the country will be allowed 1. This type of travel is specific to trips that are promoting the welfare of the Cuban citizens or advancement of their social reforms. 2. There are several mission and religious groups that support these types of trips. Finally, I want to share more about the Cuban culture and lifestyle with you There are several ethnic groups that inhabit Cuba, so the culture is integrated and influenced. A Most of the population - approximately 65 percent - is of white Spanish descent. 1. According to a CultureGrams section on "Language" in Cuba, Spanish is the official language, but English is a required course of study in their schools. 2. In contrast to other Latin American countries, most citizens do not show a preference for an organized religion. Most are Catholic, but very few practice the religion.
