Background - Evaluating Jobs - Lesson 8 - Use table 8.1 (p279) and table 8.2 (P280)
HRP 113 - 02 Assignment Evaluating Jobs - Biostatistician
A Human Resources employee is tasked to apply job evaluation criteria to new or existing positions, and write a background note for review.
A biostatistician is skilled in both math and medicine, and they use these skills to interpret enormous amounts of medical data. Then, they translate the lessons into usable information such as emerging public health trend reports; the risks and effectiveness of new medications, medical treatments and procedures; and analysis of clinical studies.
Evaluate the position Biostatistician (from your perspective) using the Compensable Factors in table Tables 8.1 and then in comparison to the positions listed in Table 8.2.
Step 1: Create a table and record the points for each Compensable Factor for Biostatistician (similar to Table 8.1 but for the position biostatistician.) Determine and record the total the points.
Step 2: Once you have calculated the total points, proceed to verify the position immediately above and immediately below Biostatistician (table 8.2), and then research salaries for the three positions.
Refer to the specific Rubric for how this assignment will be scored.
Assignment:
Write a background note (Word document or pdf file) which introduces the position Biostatistician into the hospital Job Evaluation Hierarchy (Table 8.2.)
1) Include in your completed brief the evaluation of the compensable factors for the biostatistician position. Use a table format.
2) List which position (Table 8.2) is immediately above the biostatistician position and which position is immediately below (based on Total Points you determined, and using Table 8.2.)
3) Explain the single Compensable Factor (score) which made the greatest impact on point total versus the same Compensable Factor for each of the other two positions.
4) Use the internet to determine median salary for each of the three positions (the salaries you find do not have to align with your rating, it is simply another source of data in your Compensation Toolbox.) Cite the source(s) (web site) you used.
