Walters(2003) defines logistics as the management of materials and information through the supply chain. This movement and storage of materials is a complex process and involves inbound logistics which deals with links between the focal firm and its upstream (buy side) suppliers, as well as outbound logistics which refers to the links between the focal firm and its downstream (sell side) customer. The main components of logistics involve transportation (inbound and/or outbound) and warehouse management. Companies need to revisit their logistics processes to further reduce their transportation costs and warehouse management errors to stay competitive and meet global challenges. Based on the above, you are required to take as an example a company from an industry that you are familiar with (e.g., food, technology, healthcare, retail, services, automotive), and critically examine the logistical operations with focus on warehousing systems and/or transportation. You may consider in your answer aspects such as procurement, distribution and inventory management, demand, or any other logistical activity that you perceive to be relevant to support warehouse management and/or transportation.
