Introduction to Internetworking Project 1: Ctrl-Alt-Del Inc. INTRODUCTION You have accepted a contract to participate in the design of the network infrastructure of a company called Ctrl-Alt-Del Inc. whose operations are located in two offices at the extreme ends of Canada. The North Office is in Iqaliut, Nunavut, while the South Office is found in Pelee, Ontario. Your job is to develop IP addressing schemes at both locations as well as to assist in selecting routing protocols for the two sites. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this project are: Design a valid IP addressing scheme for a given LAN Perform IP addressing and subnetting calculations Choose a routing protocol to meet specified requirements MATERIALS REQUIRED Pen and paper (and possibly a calculator) are all the materials required to complete this project. No hardware or software is needed. PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS The diagram below shows a general view of Ctrl-Alt-Del Inc.'s network with the two sites in Iqaluit and Pelee. North Office Iqaluit, NU 11 subnets South Office Pelee, ON 8 subnets Instructions 1. Developing an IP addressing scheme for the South Office The South Office site consists of 8 network subnets with the number of hosts as indicated in the table below. Subnet A B 1.2 1.2.1 1.3 D E F G H A decision has already been made to use private addressing on the internal LAN of the South Office and your boss wants you to use a single class C address and implement subnetting to accommodate all 8 subnets. 1.1 Choose an appropriate valid private IP address for the LAN. 1.4 Number of Hosts 14 10 11 12 10 4 3 4 1.2.2 What is the maximum number of hosts each subnet will be able to accommodate? Assigning a subnet mask for the LAN What will the subnet mask have to be to allow enough subnet address space for all the 8 subnets and as much address space for host addresses as possible (Note: Assume zero-subnets cannot be used) How many valid subnets will this subnetting create? (Assume the zero-subnet cannot be used) Write down the subnet numbers of these subnets Subnet Subnet Number A B D E 3. Choosing routing protocols and WAN technologies Your last step is to help design a routing strategy for the Ctrl-Alt-Del, Inc. network. Select appropriate routing protocols for the LAN at each of the two company offices. Write down your selections below: Routing protocol for the North Office LAN Routing protocol for the South Office LAN Introduction to Internetworking Project 1: Ctrl-Alt-Del Inc.
