making recommendations. The purpose of case study writing is:
1. To expose how complexities may influence various decisions.
2. To practice applying your analytical and writing skills.
3. To develop skills on how to identify key issues in an organisation and evaluate a problem.
4. Practice collecting data using a variety of sources
5. To evaluate or recommend a course of action for a particular case.
ITEM 2- LEARNING OUTCOMES TO BE ACHIEVED
LO1: Describe the field of study in OD and its processes
LO2: Distinguish between planned and unplanned change and the models of change.
LO3: Apply the diagnostic tools and the methodologies used by OD consultants.
ITEM 3- GUIDELINES
1. Students are required to do this task based on the instruction given below.
2. This task is a INDIVIDUAL work.
3. This assignment is worth 30% of your final grade.
4. This task is required to be formatted as follows:
a. The content of the case study assignment must be typed using Times New Roman, font size 12,1.5
spacing.
b. Each heading must be clearly indicated in bold, Times New Roman, font size 12.
c. Insert the paging number at the bottom right of each page.
5. Your report should be between 8-10 pages (excluding cover page, references, and appendices). If your
assignment is shorter than 10, you may lose point.
6. Add a pages for lesson learned i.e. what have you learnt from this assignment.
7. There will be no extensions unless there are extraordinary of documented circumstances, thus please manage
your time carefully.
8. The grading of this case study is based on the given rubric.
ITEM 4- INSTRUCTIONS
You are required to write a case study report with regards to issues pertaining to organizational development and change management in your organization (specifically the department/unit you are attached currently). You are required to interview the key personnel in the organisation of your choice. The case should include at least (but not limited to) some of the following:
A brief profile of your unit/department/organization
ODC issue/area (only ONE (1) major issue related to ODC)
Diagnostic Process (diagnostic process done by the relevant parties)
Resistance to Change (and ways the organization used to overcome it)
OD Intervention Strategies (Apply theories/model/concepts to examine OD intervention strategies to resolve the resistance)
Recommendations (give your recommendations to the organization related to the context of this case study)
Challenges and Future Direction
What is Case Study Writing:
Case study writing is about telling a story of a problem that has been fixed / in the midst of fixing it. The focus is on the evidence for the problem and the approach used to create a solution. The writing style guides readers through the problem and solution as it they were part of the project. The result is a case study that can be both educational and entertaining.
A Simple Guide:
Several steps must be taken before writing your case study:
Choose a situation related to ODC on which to write
Gather as much information as possible about the situation
Analyze all of the elements surrounding the situation
Determine the final solution implemented
Gather information about why the solution worked or did not work or should work
Background of the unit/department/organization
To set a brief introduction and context of the case study

Focus only ONE (1) major issue related to ODC.
Describe the situation/problem. What are the symptoms?
The reader needs to have a clear understanding of the situation. Provide information you discovered that describes why there is a problem. This will consist of facts and figures from authoritative sources. Graphs, charts, tables, photos, and anything that points to the problem are useful here.
From all of the evidence gathered, explain how the problem become a problem. You can explicitly state the problem. This sets the tone for the reader to think of the problem while he/she read the rest of the case study. This also sets the expectation that you will be presenting information the reader can use to further understand the situation.
Diagnostic Process
Explain the diagnostic process involved and used by the unit/department/organization. Did the party involve applied the OD diagnostic steps? If not, which diagnostic method they used?
What have they discovered? What was the root cause of the problem?
Resistance to Change
Is there any resistance to change by the people involved?
Why did they resist?
What are the ways used by the organization to overcome resistance?
