The quality of being patient is manifested through the ability to tolerate delay, as well as endure suffering without displaying anger or annoyance. It can further be explained as a display of emotional control on the part of the teacher, in situations that may typically provoke aggression (Rogers). Furthermore, in their study on students perspectives on the qualities of effective teachers, Clement and Rencewigg found that being patient is one of the important qualities of such a teacher (367). An effective teacher displays this characteristic as she repeatedly beckons, encourages and supports her students, even when they procrastinate, lag behind, display rudeness and show that they are unwilling to try. Patience epitomises the effective teacher.
