Lysine is an additive for animal feed, so it's in much of what humans eat. The American company Archer Daniels Midland got together with a number of European and Asian agricultural companies to make cartel in lysine. Government officials suspected that there was a cartel, and sent an undercover agent to tape record a cartel meeting where they discussed quantity and price. An executive of one of the companies was recorded saying, "We need to hire an accounting firm to come in and look at all of our records."
