NPCC student/athletes represent the college every hour of the day that they are in college. This includes the classroom, residence halls, cafeteria, college sponsored trips, participation on and off the area of competition, and in and around the city of North Platte, NE. Athletes will not instigate, participate in, or condone inappropriate behavior from himself/herself or a fellow student/athlete. Inappropriate behavior is any behavior which draws undesirable attention to the student/athlete, the student/athlete's teammates or to the college. Such attention is embarrassing to the student/athlete, the student/athlete's parents, sport coaches, and to the college. In order to assist you in the pursuit of a quality educational experience, Mid-Plains Community College has established the following guidelines for those students choosing to participate in NPCC athletics 1. ON THE COURT/FIELD/ARENA An athlete will strive to avoid profanity or illegal tactics during practices and games. Both winning and losing are a part of the game, athletes should be gracious in defeat and modest in victory. Officials are present for the purpose of insuring both teams that they will receive fair competition. Every athlete is expected to follow the rules in their sport It is an athletic tradition that the officials are treated with respect. a. Athletes are to give full cooperation to the coaching staff, managers, trainer, and teammates 1. Student/Athletes are expected to observe team training rules. 2. Student/Athletes are expected to respect and care for college property (i.e. equipment, uniforms, and facilities). 2. IN THE CLASSROOM A student/athlete, in order to be eligible to participate in intercollegiate sports, must follow the college's academic standards of progress procedures as well as NJCAA guidelines. Students must register and complete 12 hours per term while maintaining a 2.000 GPA on a 4.0 scale. At no time during the term of participation may the athlete drop below 12 registered semester hours of college coursework. (If the athlete does drop below 12 registered hours, he/she is immediately INELIGIBLE to compete for the college sponsored team.) Student Athletes should give respectful attention to classroom activities and show respect for fellow students, NPCC faculty and college personnel. b a Studentathletes are expected to attend classes on a regular basis Student/athletes must be on time for class Student/athletes should behave as adults at all times d. Student/athletes will attend study table sessions as outlined by the athletic department and participate actively in the departments Academic Monitoring program e. As a scholarship recipient of an approved NPCC collegiate sport not meeting the prior academic expectations may result in loss of the scholarship completely or being required to ro-pay the college for classes that you receive a letter grade of F or not making required academic progress as outlined by standards of progress 3. ON TRIPS On college sponsored trips off-campus remember that as a student/athlete you and your teammates represent the college, coaches, and our community. Therefore, we expect you to use good judgment in dress, behavior, and language, NEVER DO ANYTHING TO EMBARRASS NPCC OR THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM. You need to remember that your participation on a NPCC athletic team is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT. This privilege can quickly be taken away by failing to act in a responsible and mature manner on trips, as well as on our own campus 4. COLLEGE EQUIPMENT Student/athletes are financially responsible for all equipment checked out to them. They will treat all equipment as though it were their own personal property. They will not abuse it, and they will maintain the security of their personal gear. 5. GENERAL COLLEGE CONDUCT The NPCC Student Conduct as authorized by the Area Dean of Student Life, outlines the expectations for general student nights and responsibilities of conduct. Because student athletes are often viewed as campus leaders, they should conduct themselves in accordance with the guidelines established in the college catalog. If you are a resident of the college residence halls, it is your responsibility to be familiar with the rules and regulations of the residence halls as outlined in the NPCC Residence Hall Handbook 6. SOCIAL NETWORKING AND SOCIAL MEDIA The use of social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace and others in the same genre are not to be used in a way that may be disruptive, offensive to others, harmful to morale, or potentially damaging to the College. The intentional use of the internet and the referenced social networking sites are not to be used to access, transmit, post, or process obscene or offensive material, inappropriate text, or files dangerous to the integrity of the college. When in doubt please contact your supervisor or administrator. Asking questions and using common sense will help minimize potential problems associated with this technology. We are all responsible for representing the college in the best light Disciplinary Actions: It is recognized that individual coaches have their own requirements and regulations for conduct in the practice arena, during travel to and from competition, and during the actual competition itself. This is as it should be and our Code of Conduct at (MPCC) Mid-Plains Community College is not meant to infringe upon or detract from that rigt and responsibility
