Measuring Progress & Earned Value

Company Alpha runs up to 31 different projects simultaneously and GEMINI is one such project. The work in each projects WBS is divided into four major disciplines: Air, Water, Terrestrial and Field Data Collection. On a typical project Air, Terrestrial and Water tasks cannot complete unless several of Field Data Collection tasks complete first. The GEMINI project manager Sally together with a small team of 2 project assistants are stationed on floor 2 of the Company Alphas headquarters building. Sally depends directly on the Air, Water and Terrestrial discipline resources to get project deliverables done. However, Air, Water and Terrestrial depend and use on results from Field Data Collections. Those resources reside with their functional teams: Air, Terrestrial and Water discipline teams are on the 3rd floor and the Field Data Collection discipline team members in the Lab Building which is one hour drive from the headquarters. Sally has plotted the EVM output for Project GEMINIs disciplines plus the overall project. See EVM diagram provided.

a) What should Sally conclude from these results and which discipline should she focus more of her efforts on? Please explain and analyse the progress of all the four disciplines as well as the overall project. (14 points) b) Sally is debating whether it is premature to communicate the results of her EVM analysis in her weekly status report. What do you think she should include in her status report? (3 points) c) Which building should Sally spend most of her time at during the next little while? Explain.(3 points)
